Stale Corn Flakes are da Bomb
The chickens new favorite food is stale corn flakes. Mix that with cat food and it’s a dynamite taste sensation (according to the chickens!)
The girls are making it through winter in dandy shape. Gracie is still in the middle of her molt. But it’s on the downward leg by now.
She still looks pretty ratty but comes out of the chicken house as soon as the others do and is interested in food. She’s also spending lots more time outside.
I’m still getting eggs, not as many since Gracie stopped but enough.
I want to get two more chickens to round out the group. I’m deciding what breed. I’ve read that you should not bring a single chicken into the group by herself, the others will pick on her. It’s also recommended that the new chickens be about the same size as the ones already there to cut down on the bullying.
The chicken run is very slimy and muddy now and I’m looking forward to building a true pen with a gate (how wonderful).
The area looks kind of ghetto right now.
They’re getting tamer all the time, heck they’re more responsive to me than my dogs have been!
