Snow Fence Snafus
So the snow fence “ceiling” to the chicken run has proven to be a fairly good alternative even though I thought I was buying garden fabric to keep the birds away from fruit trees.
Oh well. It keeps a fairly protected run for the hens.
There are a couple of drawbacks however. The ceiling holds snow…obviously. Since it’s a snow fence it collects snow and weighs the “ceiling” down bowing the poles toward the center. So I have to remember to shake off the snow periodically.
Went it rains it’s a different story. The run is kept somewhat dry, though when I go in the pen I can’t stand upright, I have to bend over and duck down accidentally bumping the “ceiling” as I work. That’s when all the water collected on the “ceiling” dumps down my back.
Nice.
The permanent structure will have a 6-8 foot ceiling with a gate to walk through and a run I can stand up in.
